There's too much shame in fandom secrets. Embrace your OTPs!

Werner Herzog and Klaus Kinski, by the way. For the uninitiated, Herzog is a German director who makes unique and epic films set in exotic locations. Kinski was an intense and prolific actor who collaborated with Herzog in five films. I just watched "My Best Fiend," Herzog's documentary about his tumultuous relationship with Kinski, and I'm pretty sure Werner Herzog, on some level, ships Herzog/Kinski.

Also, Klaus Kinski is gorgeous:

Some beautiful footage of Kinski playing with a butterfly.

As the title character in Herzog's "Aguirre: Wrath of God." Look at that face!

For years, I didn't watch TV. As a teenager, I simply lost touch with the medium. As a young adult, I bought a tube TV but only used it for movies. Eventually, I bought an antenna so I could watch free, snowy broadcasts in my not-so-copious spare time (usually important sporting events like championship series or the Olympics). Lately, I started watching House, due to a chance encounter with the show following the Superbowl.

But yeah, a lack of enthusiasm for most television, combined with a strong anti-consumer stance for the last couple of years, has led to a total disconnect between me and current television technology.

Due to a recent downsizing of my apartment, I've upgraded to shiny new HDTV.

HOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN GOING ON?!

Even free TV is looking awesome! Why didn't anyone tell me?!

The bad old days. This is what I'd been doing for the past 6 years. :P

Joss Whedon's latest project, Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, has gotten a lot of attention these last few weeks. It's a musical, it's a comedy, it stars Neil Patrick Harris. A lot of fans are gushing over it -- memorizing the songs, quoting the lines, calling it an "important parable about the consequences of ambition," making Fandom!Secrets about it. I watched it, and thought... eh. A few funny lines, passable singing and so-so music. What is the big deal? Is there some kind of camp factor I'm missing because of too many years listening to Sondheim? Somebody, please explain!

From [info]fandomsecrets...

As someone who -is- into guys old enough to be their father, and as a fan of Tom Waits as an artist and a human being, I'm glad to see Tom making a splash in the 20-something demographic. But would I hit it? Ummm... probably not. :P

I've officially seen all the episodes!! 4 seasons in 5 months. What an adventure. :P

Compressing the show into such a short time definitely changes the experience, I think. I haven't gotten tired of the original Ducklings -- I miss them! And it's easy to see the way the show has changed over the years. The first season was so heavy and serious, and tackled, you know, issues. House was a highly sympathetic character, a misunderstood genius. Later seasons became much lighter, more comic, more selfish!House and prankster!House. I liked these episodes too, in fact I loved the 4th season, even though I had initially worried that it was exploring shark jumping territory. Can't wait for new episodes in the fall!

So yeah, I'm all caught up on the canon. What now?!

Hello all! I've been seeing a lot of angsty fan videos in response to the season finale. They are lovely, but a bit of fluff every once in a while doesn't hurt either. :)

Title: Good Lovin' by [info]all_grrrl_space
Summary: House is diagnosed with a lurrrvve deficiency. The Ducklings and Cuddy want to help, but House just wants Wilson. :) A fun, peppy video set to "Good Lovin" by The Rascals.
Beta: Beta-watched by the generous and knowledgeable [info]usomitai!
Warnings: sick!House, teh healing penis, fluff
Spoilers: Uses clips from seasons 1-4.

Best episode ever! So many LOL-worthy lines and sight-gags, and a wonderful balance between medical drama and character storylines. The whole cast was featured in this one! LOVE!

Dr. James Wilson

45% Eccentricity, 20% Confidence, 80% Kindness

Congratulations, you're Dr. James Wilson! You've got the tough role of being the conscience and best friend to Dr. Greg House, which proves that you must be secretly (or openly) insane. You're always a good person for providing advice, witty remarks, free lunches, lectures, and (wanted or unwanted) psychoanalysis. You are about as confident as the average person, but you have some big issues with yourself, and may have problems living up to the ideals you have in your head. You do really care about other people, though, even if you sometimes express that caring by trying to get into their pants.

This test tracked 3 variables. How the score compared to the other people's:
Higher than 36% on Eccentricity
Higher than 5% on Confidence
Higher than 94% on Kindness

Now that I've completed the Stacy and Tritter arcs, here are my thoughts on the storylines that wouldn't end.

Stacy, Tritter, and shameless Chase fangirling. )

Well, I'm rolling into Season 2 now. I don't want it to seem like I don't care about the other storylines and characters, because I do, I really do! I'm totally digging the House/Wilson hoyay, I have the hots for Cuddy, and awwwwwr Steve McQueen!!!

But man (here we go), the Chase episodes are fantastic!!! Just finished watching "The Mistake," and -really- appreciated the deviation from the formula, the narrative awesomeness, and... Chase, I feel your pain. Even though you're kind of sleazy, I'd hug you if you weren't fictional.

Hey folks! I'm not ashamed to admit that House episodes have a formula. All the better to play drinking games with (or, for the straight-edged, bingo)! Thanks to the Facebook House Drinking Game for giving me a place to start, but really, that game leads to alcohol poisoning.

The team gathers to discuss the patient's symptoms and possible diagnoses. Have a swallow when they suggest vasculitis, auto-immune disease, lupus, cancer, or infection.

Tests and procedures:
Into the MRI of Doom with you! Take a drink when something really, really bad happens in the MRI machine.
NeedMo'! (That stands for Needles and More.) Alcohol eases the pain for lumbar punctures, bone marrow biopsies, anything involving the eyeball, and power tools in the OR.

Surprise! The initial diagnosis was wrong, and the patient gets a lot worse! Knock one back when if the patient experiences a seizure, anaphylactic shock, respiratory distress, cardiac arrest, or intubation.

Who says House doesn't have friends? Yum yum boozy fun for anyone attempting to analyze House, slashy subtext between House and Wilson, and sexual harassment toward Cuddy.

And finally...
House's epiphany. Partay! He's solved the case!

Think you should be a doctor? A drink for you if you can correctly identify the illness before House does.

Have fun, and don't forget to have a friend drive you home! :)

I'm about halfway through season 1, just at the brink of the Vogler arc. I like these early episodes, when the ideas were fresh, the formula wasn't the deep groove that it is now, and the characters were growing and shining.

I can identify with Chase the most -- he's eager to please... to a fault. He's like this little kid who's desperate for approval. I'm a little ashamed to admit this, but that is totally me. We also share a religious background and wear the same shoes. We're also both really hot!! :)

That's what I'm talkin' about.

I was thinking about the clinic patients -- why is it that so few of them actually have conditions that require medical attention? I understand that they provide comic relief to the show, but these people are caricatures! Caricatures of the proletariat, perhaps? It is a free clinic, after all. Classist!

Okay, so I'll admit that I only started watching House after the Superbowl. That means the first two episodes I ever saw were "Frozen" and "Don't Ever Change," which, apparently, were very important episodes in establishing H/W love as canon. I feel so spoiled -- some of these fans have been shipping H/W for the last three years, and when I come prancing in, the writing are just dishing it out!

When I saw "Don't Ever Change," I was positively tickled by the H/W relationship, and the first thing I did was google "house slash". :) Right now, I'm just trying to get caught up on the canon. And then... I will make them love!
